ICYMI: Timken: Biden Border Crisis directly affects Ohio

“As a direct result of the Biden Administration’s open-border policies, the crisis at our Southern Border is exploding — and our current Democrat leaders are nowhere to be found.

Upon taking office, Joe Biden rolled back many of the successful policies of the Trump Administration that made our border safe and secure. Namely, he ended construction of the border wall, revoked the “Remain in Mexico” policy, eliminated restrictions on chain migration, and advocated amnesty for 11 million illegal immigrants living in the United States.

This radical lurch to the left comes as no surprise.

On the campaign trail, Mr. Biden openly supported giving illegal immigrants taxpayer-funded health care, while Kamala Harris has pushed for the decriminalization of illegal border crossings. Ms. Harris has gone so far as to compare the brave men and women serving in Immigration and Customs Enforcement to the KKK.

These open border policies are precisely why there are migrants at the Southern border wearing T-shirts that say “Biden, please let us in.”

Instead of showing real leadership and addressing this crisis of their own making, the Biden Administration response can be summed up in three “Bs” — buck responsibility, blame others, and backtrack.

But how does it affect Ohio? After all, we aren’t a border state.

First and foremost, it impacts our national security. CBP has apprehended terrorists attempting to use the chaos to sneak into the country.

Second, the humanitarian crisis should devastate everyone. Facilities with unaccompanied minors are so overcrowded that young girls are forced to use plastic bags as toilets.

Third, open borders mean increased human trafficking and drug smuggling, both of which greatly impact Ohio. The seizure of fentanyl at the border has risen by 233 percent since last year. Illicit drugs are being trafficked across the border and ending up in states nationwide, including Ohio.

As U.S. Senator, I will fight to protect our borders by championing a return to America First policies. I will fight to finish building the wall. It is critical that we resume the “Remain in Mexico” policy and put Americans first when it comes to education and health care — not dangle them as rewards that incentivize illegal immigration.

As your U.S. Senator, I will stand strong against illegal immigration because a safe and secure border means safe and secure communities.”
